With kernel 52+ install gcc-8 before installing virtualbox ubuntu 1804x comes with gcc-7x the newer kernels are build with gcc-9 and use some instructions that are not available with gcc-7. Download virtualbox linux kernel driver. Cannot access the kernel driver i did the traditional repair (control panel -> uninstall software -> orace virtualbox 418 -> repair) and did a reboot afterwards but this didn't solve the problem i think i have now found the cause of the problem.
